There was a TV show about a very heavy man who decided to change his life. This man was extremely heavy – he weighted around a thousand pounds. All he did each day was lie in his bed, because that’s all that he could do. He laid in bed all day long just waiting to die. His doctor even had to come to his house in order to examine him.

During one house call, the doctor shrugged and basically told the man that there was nothing else that he could do for him. He stated, “Well, if you are just going to lie here and do nothing, you are going to die. I can guarantee you that. Instead of lying there and waiting for death, at least die doing something.”

That powerful statement struck a chord with the man. As a result of their conversation, he decided to do something about his physical health. The television show fast-forwarded to a year later and showed the same man, who has lost 250 pounds and was now walking around! He decided that he didn’t want to die like that. He chose not to settle.

Sadly, some of us have settled spiritually despite the fact that we have the ability to get up and do something through the power of God that is at work within us. We know that at one point or another each of us is going to die physically (unless the Lord returns before then). Let’s at least die knowing that we’ve spent our lives doing something that will matter after this life ends. Don’t settle.

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
